What am I afraid of right now?

I haven't been inspired to blog lately. Tonight changed that. I was half listening to an NPR program earlier where the author/reporter asked random people the same 3 questions: What do you live for? What would you die for? and I forget the third one. Like I said, I was only half listening. So  I'm going to make up the third question: What are you afraid of right now?

What I'm afraid of was sitting to my right at the bar of the American Legion on San Carlos Island tonight. She was petitie, blonde and frowning. She had on a turquoise sweater and matching short shorts. She had on a lot of jewelry and her fingers had recently been manicured. She kept up a steady patter directed towards her husband. She talked about the menu for her next dinner party; she talked about what the table next to us had ordered for drinks, she talked about how she wanted the chicken for dinner but wasn't ready for it yet, she talked about her next manicure ( Thursday) and her next pedicure (Friday) (she wanted to get them on Monday and Tuesday but Monday is a holiday and her girl takes Wednesday off, so it had to be Thursday and Friday.), and as we were leaving, she was planning where her dinner party guests would park.

I don't know what I'm going to do over then next year or so, but God, please save me from being this person. Amen. It's what scares me right now.

Oh my goodness Wilda, have no fear my dear. The day that you become that person, will be the day that I am PETITE, BLONDE, and WEARING MATCHING TURQUOISE. It is just NOT going to happen! Now I can see you having get togethers with new friends, getting mani/pedi's, but Tom will not listen to this banter so you better think of something else to talk about ;-) ! LOVE YOU !!!

  2. Amen to that, sister! Preach it! Although I DO love my mani's, pedi's, reflexology, facials, and general pampering...for mental health reasons, of course! I feel this way whenever I"m at Fashion Square Mall and see the tight, plastic, faces, botoxed expressions, overly puffy lips, ginormous disproportionate, unnatural cleavage, and think...without the character left in your face, and your time and money spent on chasing the superficial dream of youth and beauty, you really don't look or seem like someone I would want to be or know! Exception: I do plan to get an eyelid lift someday, because everyone always asks if I'm tired. But, yes, if your point is this superficial, self-attention-getting kind of vacuous talk is scary, you are right. Either that, or her husband? has zero thoughts in his head, and he simply has no worthy chatter to banter around with her about.
